Transition Year for HHRR Print E-mail

Image After more than 28 years of promoting successful races in Western Connecticut, including the most recent 14 years of the Housatonic Hills Road Race, Zephyr Cycling Team has decided that this will be the last year that it promotes the HHRR. This decision was based on two simple facts; a) the increasing manpower required to stage a large and successful event and, 2) the Team’s shrinking membership ranks.  From the early days of the Danbury Downtown Criterium, we have always set high expectations for ourselves and our races.  Based on the consistent and overwhelming participation of our customers, we trust that over the years we have achieved these goals.

In 2010 Zephyr will be partnering with Bethel Cycle Sport as it hands off the promotion of the HHRR.  For many years BCS has been supporting local cycling in Western Connecticut and brings along a large source of race volunteers.   With its solid foundation, all of us at Zephyr and BCS are confident that the HHRR will remain a staple of New England racing for many years to come.

We at Zephyr would like to offer our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has helped with the 28 years of promoting competitive cycling in Western Connecticut.  Most of all, we would like to thank all the competitors who have again and again supported the racing throughout all these years.

Flyer states "Connecticut USCF State Medals will be awarded in each race to the top three CT residents"

Results show medal placing by age for Pro123 men/women, Masters men 35+, 45+, 55+, even Juniors at 27 miles.

What about for the 3/4 men, 4 men, 4 women (and ok, even Cat 5 men at 27 miles?!) Why aren't Cat 4 women getting age-ranked awards like the men?

Medals should be awarded as advertised.

My only win was at the HHRR when I was a cat4. Now that I'm a cat2 I look forward to banging heads with the top guys in the Northeast. HHRR is always a great place to gauge your fitness for the rest of the season.

i have done this race for 11 of its years. one of the best one day races ever!!! i never won it but came close a few times and it did not seem to matter because it was so good. zephyrs rider "cam" i will always hold in high regaurd for organizing this race even after he could no longer put in the hard efforts on the bike that i am sure he misses. Hopefully it will continue to be one of the best.THANKS! for many good memories.

HHRR has become my favorite single-day race of the season. A beautiful and hard course and a well organized race. The winners are always worthy. Thanks for all our hard work over the years putting on this New England Classic.

I always thought Bike Express(of Danbury) sponsored Zephyr! Is Bethel now the new sponsor? Why? Always loved the HHRR hope it continues under Pelican's leadership!
